One Billion Rising is an international coalition of campaigners speaking out for action to tackle violence against girls and women across the world. 160 countries and over 27,000 individuals have signed already. Together with over 9,200 organizations, that include V-Day event beneficiaries, we are already reaching over 61 million people. It is taking place on 14 February 2013 to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of V-day, the global movement to end violence against women and girls. This website helps campaigners in Britain get involved in this work, helping to tackle the causes and consequences of violence against women and girls in the UK and supporting those across the world joining in this campaign and their actions as well. The campaign is gaining momentum nationally with workshops taking place across the country, media coverage in the Guardian and support coming from many public figures, from actors and comedians to politicians to everyday readers.

The UK members of the Labour movement are helping to lead this campaign with OBR because we believe that in times of economic difficulty it is even more important to work towards a more socially just, safe and prosperous society for all as part of rebuilding Britain. This builds on our Everywoman Safe, Everywhere report. We welcome the involvement of all those who share our concern to make tackling violence against women and girls in the UK and internationally a priority, seeking practical and effective changes to ensure they live in a country and a society that supports them to fulfil their potential through being able to lead lives without fear.

This website will help UK campaigners keep up to date with the five different programmes within the campaign, latest news on actions, events, supporters and training available for participants and how you can get involved. We also urge campaigners to join our mailing list and to visit the international campaign website here. Our twitter hashtags for this campaign are #1billionrising globally and #OBRUK for UK specific actions – to stay in touch please also like our Facebook Page .
